Between Myth and Memory

Inspired by the Nordic myth of the forest spirit Skogsrå, this body of wearable artworks explores women’s stories through mythology, transformation, and craftsmanship.

Part folklore, part historical reflection, SKOGSRÅ draws on the imagined lives of women who lived at the margins of society, women who were feared, forgotten or forced into silence.

Every Coat Carries a Story

Each coat is individually handcrafted from reclaimed textiles. No two pieces are alike. Every garment carries its own history, becoming a unique wearable artwork.

 

Materials with Memory

The coats begin with carefully selected vintage wool blankets, combined with natural fibres, silkscreen prints, embroidery and hand-knitted elements. Materials are chosen not only for their beauty, but for the histories they carry.

I have always been fascinated by the lives held within textiles - how the material is harvested (wool, cotton, linen, silk), spun, woven, worn, repaired and passed from one person to another. Each coat continues that journey.

A Pattern That Continues

Every SKOGSRÅ coat begins with the same pattern. Its origin is an evening gown from New York in the 1930s. Over time, the pattern has been reworked, adapted and transformed, while still carrying traces of its original silhouette. Like the reclaimed textiles used throughout the collection, it reminds us that stories are never created from nothing. They are inherited, reshaped and carried forward.

Every work sold also invests in other women through microloans, extending the artwork beyond the object itself.
